First look

Since I am wanting to be a math teacher I looked for math pod casts to blog on.  I'm new to blogging and podcasts not because I am uncomfortable with technology.  Being in the military especially in the career I was in everything I did was under watch and scrutiny in being appropriate as well as professional.  Its now ingrained into me to be cautious of everything I post publicly, but it also has me skeptical on the appropriateness of certain tools like twitter or blogging.  I know there is a purpose for them, however I have never seen a purpose that I want to contribute to.  This assignment will be learning one for me, and maybe it will change my mind.  I found a math podcast in iTunes called Mental Math Secrets.  I chose this particular podcast because in additional to the voice the guy does a video as well.  When I consider being a math teacher I have to look at the different ways you can get the answer to a lot of different math problems and not all students learn the same way or can understand every method to get the answer.  To solve that problem as a teacher I have to make sure that if I don't teach all of the methods I need to make other methods available to the students in other ways.  Most people don't like math and have a hard time understanding the concepts behind math, so if I teach as though most of the students don't understand math or like it then my hope is to reach more students that way.  The podcast I chose is a potential method that I can use to help the students.  The video showing how the guy is explaining methods and problem is vital to helping the students understand what is being explained.
